The whole witch genre is hot and the older kids might like the romance component to this one. The relationship between the cousins is simplfied a bit but the kids here seem to love the book. Amy Inglis, Barrington
This reads like a Harlequin romance for kids -Jinx, the Ingenue with a not so innocent past, in competition with her worldly cousin, Tory; the silly misunderstanding of misplaced affections, which predominate until the big reveal at the end. The touch of magic thrown in makes the story slightly original, but in a time where the market is glutted with magic and witches, this does not stand out. It may appeal to Meg Cabot fans who fall between her Mediator series and her Princess Diaries series, or who enjoyed both equally.

I read this when it first came out, with high expectations. I hoped it would be a stand-out Wiccan novel, but it fell flat. It seemed more like a forced YA version of Carrie. I felt like the characters were dull and underdeveloped, and the plot was half-hearted. It does not circulate much at our library. -Danielle, Chesley Memorial, Northwood
