FlumeAward – Skinned Discussion page for Skinned.
I experienced a love/hate reaction to "Skinned." It was very well written; and, compared with other books of the science-fiction genre, it was exceptional. The concept of life extended through bio-mechanical means is definitely thought-provoking. Appeal seems to be toward both boys and girls, although at our library only girls have read it. It would not be one of my top 13 picks for the Flume Awards. — Donna, Colebrook Public Library
Skinned is very interesting. It reminded me of The Uglies by Westerfeld, but with a different twist. It left me feeling there might be a sequel. Would be a great book to discuss. How far is too far to go to sustain life and who gets to choose. Is a brain downloaded into a computerized body a person or an it? This book would attract both boys and girls. More of a science fiction than fantasy. Good book, but not great. I wouldn’t fight for it to be on the list.

I like the sci fi and moral elements to this book. It’s a great book to discuss. It has adult themes but is written in with a YA format/style.
