The Caged Graves by Dianne K. Salerni
Brenda, from the Rye Public Library reported to me on this one. I haven’t read it, but wanted to make a notation of her comments. She said it is a historical fiction story told in an "old-fashioned" way. The story was very good, but she didn’t see teens searching out the book – though if they gave it a chance, they’d like it well enough. From the reviews I’ve read, it sounds like it would appeal to those interested in forensics, historical fiction, and the paranormal. Sorry, I know this is a rather thin comment; hopefully, someone who’s read it will offer something more substantial!

I have read this book and loved it. The writing is very atmospheric and evocative of the time period. The tension between the characters is palpable and the suspense kept me turning each page. The biggest strike against it is the cover, which makes it look like period romance, despite the title. The reason I would recommend it for the list is because I think it would fly off the shelfif teens would give it a try. It contains several different genres to give it broad reader appeal and it is very well written. It is definitely suited to older teens in terms of content, but it is a fairly easy and quick read. Somehow it lingers with you after the final chapter as the characters came to life and shared their journey alongside you for a while.
