The Isinglass Committee looked at this one and many liked the story but found the CSI graphic nature a bit too much for the middle school crowd. I think older kids could handle it and you don’t find much out there written for kids that hits that CSI watching niche. A bit like Patricia Cornwell for the younger set.

This was a book to interest both boys and girls. The concept of a seventeen-year-old being allowed into crime scenes is a bit of a stretch, and the description of the murdered bodies in various stages of decomposition was quite graphic. Likewise the autopsy scenes, however, the simplicity of the prose makes it more scientific than gory in details. It is fast-paced, and the two plots come together neatly at the end. One plot is to solve the murders being committed, and the other is the mystery surrounding Cameryn’s mother’s disappearance from her life. The adult and teen characters are sympathetically and realistically portrayed.
