Wecker, Helene. The golem and the jinni. New York: Harper perennial, 2013.
A golem is created by a sketchy rabbi to be the wife of a guy emigrating to America at the turn of the 20th century. A jinni comes out of a copper flask in Manhattan. And the story begins. After an English teacher in our high school recommended this book to me last summer, I borrowed it, read it, and enjoyed it. This is a great historical fiction with a bit of mythology wrapped in. Some sex but alluded to, not specific – Nice adult crossover book. Flesher – Nashua South

I really loved this book. It does a great job of painting its historical and cultural setting. It is complex and very different than many of the books that usually show up in Flume nominations. It might be a bit much for less patient readers, but totally worth it for those that take the time to get sucked into the mythology. Sophie Smith — Nashua Public Library
