Raven Boys was one of my favorites this year. The writing is high quality. The story is unusual and complex. Though the quest might seem far-fetched, the author makes it all plausible. Who doesn’t like a quest for a sleeping knight? This should be on the list.

Well written mix of mystery, fantasy and realistic fiction. Equally compelling for both genders. No major cliff hangers, but it will still leave readers looking for book 2.

Loved this book by Maggie Stiefvater. Creative plot, great characters with their own idiosyncracies and obsessions. Like Scorpio Races, this book is high quality fiction with turns of phrase that pull you in. Believable but mysterious and intriguing.

I really liked this book. I’ve liked all of Maggie Stiefvater’s books so far, although this one did not grip me as much as The Scorpio Races or the first of the Wolves of Mercy Falls books. I read this several months ago, and am now realizing it wasn’t as memorable as either Bitterblue or The Sweetest Spell. I think it would appeal to more to girls but be good for boys as well, and the full 9-12 grade range. It was a fairly easy read, and I am quite looking forward to the sequel. -Katherine Bollenbach, Belmont Public Library, 4/2/13.
