FlumeAward – Almost True Almost True by Keren David
This is a great action suspense book that is a sequel to When I was Joe. This is one of the few series books that is a good stand-alone. The cover art of a teen boy in a hoodie in profile against a fire-engine red background grabs the attention. The book opens with a shooting and Ty and his family being hustled to safety by the police. Witness protection has not worked so Ty is now under 24-hour police protection in a safe house, away from his family. This story is full of gritty, raw emotions and fast-paced action that drags the reader along to a satisfying conclusion. Ty is a well-drawn character, full of all the insecurities and uncertainties of most teens, and the secondary characters are also three dimensional and believable. I would recommend this for the Flume list as it will draw all gender interest. Sally Nelson, Leach Library, Londonderry
