I agree wholeheartedly. This is one of Dessen’s best, although definitely a girl book. It is well written, cleverly crafted and with strong characters. I also think this should make the final list.

Along for the Ride will definitely appeal to teens, coming of age, second chances, friendships, romance, and of course a bit about biking make this Sarah Dessen book a definite Flume award book
Teen girls LOVE all of Dessen’s books.
I love all of Sarah Dessen’s books but have to say this is my favorite. A strong teen girl character is equally surrounded by strong friends. This should be on the final list.

-I agree with everyone above- it’s one of our most checked out titles, Sarah Dessen is very popular with our female readers. I would also recommend this for the list. -Beth Strauss, Pelham High School
This was on YALSA’s Teen Top Ten list this year. For libraries that promote both TTT and Flume, although this is a popular title and book, it’s been done this year.

You have to know this about me–I LIKE teen chick lit as long as it’s not too fluffy. Sarah Dessen comes up with another good solid read. Topics include divorced parents, stepmother with a new baby, pursuing college, strained relationships (yes, parents included) and self-discovery. I like the protagaonist because she’s hard on herself and learns a little about trying things that she’s not good at. Any female who likes contempory YA chick fic would love this book. Recommended.
