Angel Burn

FlumeAward – Angel Burn //Angel Burn// by L.A. Weatherly

Willow has always been different from those around her: dressing how she wants, fixing cars, having psychic ability, and living with her mother whom is mentally ill and her aunt. When asked to read a schoolmate’s future, Willow sees that the girl is going to be harmed by joining the new Church of the Angels. Enter Alex, an Angel Killer who has been sent to kill Willow. Angel Killers work to save the world from angels which live by ingesting the life force of humans. After an angel has fed on a person, that person often gets sick – gets Angel Burn (cancer, AIDS, MD). Alex saves Willow, they fall in love, and work to free the world from Angels. (OK that was really simplified – there is a decent love story here, enough to make me gag because I am NOT a love story fan, enough chasing and danger to keep teens reading, and a real moral issue. Although there is a lot of kissing going on, there is not much more.) This book can stand alone – although the door is left open for the sequel that is already out: Angel Fire. I was pleasantly surprised by this book, and think that it would make a good addition to the list. ~ Sharon Flesher-Duffy, Nashua High South
