This title is on this year’s Great Stone Face list. I assume it’s too young for Flume? Ann Hoey, NHSL
I think it’s too young, though like Wonder, I understand its wide audience. Its main point of view is the 12-year-old main character, but it does switch point of view to several other adult characters, which may be why it has a wide appeal. But ultimately, not for Flume, in my opinion. – Liz Merrimack PL
I read this with kids from grades 5-8 for a book discussion. I had high hopes for this book, so perhaps that’s why it was a bit of let down. Willow, albeit unbelievable, was a likeable character for me. (She loves libraries! And reading! And information!) Many of the other characters had very unlikeable parts to them, but that didn’t hold the book back for me. Some of this novel felt forced, it was unnecessarily long, and I didn’t care about the characters as much as I would have liked to. The ending was also forced. One reviewer said he fell out of love with the book over time. That statement suits me. This is a solid 3 stars and recommended for grades 5-8 and as Ann and Liz said it is too young for this list.

Willow, a genius twelve-year-old, faces obstacle after tragedy after obstacle, changing the lives of many around her.
Although the protagonist is only twelve, this will appeal to teens, as her problems are not exclusive to children, and she is a sympathetic character.
