FlumeAward – Dance with a Vampire (Vampire Kisses Discussion page for Dance with a Vampire
Dance with a Vampire is the 4th in the Vampire Kisses series. I read it cold. While I wished I’d read the others to really understand what was going on, there was enough recap that I didn’t really need to have read them. The protagonist, Raven Madison, is a goth vampire wannabe, who is dating a vampire. She was a bit difficult to relate to, and I’m not sure if it’s just because I don’t identify with goths (though I read plenty of protagonists with whom I have nothing in common, and I identify with them just fine), or the oddly dated way of speech (I wondered if these had really been written 20 years ago, or if the author was foreign), or just because.
Dance with a Vampire is probably a good fit for high school aged readers, and may be equally good for boys and girls, but it definitely leans on the side of girls, with all of the romance and prom dress shopping. It was not the greatest book, though it serves its purpose and adds to the vampire genre, and I don’t recommend it for the final group.
