FlumeAward – I’ll Give You the Sun I’ll Give You the Sun by Jandy Nelson
Family/dysfunctional family, twins, angst, alternating POVs, QUILTBAG, secrets, art – drawing/sculpture/pottery, romance/love. This teen book has it all.
I can see a lot of people loving this book – the writing was beautiful, lots of intense feelings, well crafted voices, art, romance, etc. I read it very quickly, and with art, that can be a mistake. It gets 4/5 stars because the writing is lovely and the characters drive the novel. Some of the art metaphors were too much for me, and sometimes morality issues in books stick in my throat. I will explain that statement to anyone who asks me after they read it.
But still, Jandy Nelson does it again. I recommend for the list.~Kathy Watson, Kimball Library, Atkinson
This book would make a good addition to the list for the reasons already listed. I loved the language, especially in Noah’s voice. I’m a sucker for double narrators. And I love the cover! I think it will be a book that can be offered to a wide variety of teens for a wide variety of reasons. –Sophie Smith, Nashua Public Library
MUST BE ON LIST! This was a fantastic book!! I originally found the hyperbole a bit much but then grew to love and appreciate the humor and truth hidden within those exaggerations. When I finished the book, I posted right away to my FB account that it’s among the BEST YA books I’ve read. Beautiful, beautiful, beautiful. I believe this one should be in the top 10 – for sure. Winner of Printz and Stonewall Honor for YA.
