FlumeAward – The Big Crunch //The Big Crunch// by Pete Hautman
An excellent choice for the Flume.
June doesn’t want to think about the near future. What’s the point when she moves around so much? Then she meets Wes and their connection lets her hope for more despite the challenges to their relationship.
There is a subtlety to style and writing that sets it apart. The author does a great job with the teenage voices. There is good use of imagery in the book which enhances the story. ~ Gail Zachariah, Keene Public Library
Loved this book…a wonderful romance that fits the mold of current teen movies where it is a realistic portrayal of the ups and downs of a romantic relationship rather than a sappy hearts and flowers kind of fairy tale. I thought the teens were real and the end of the story was sweet yet real.

The Big Crunch by Pete Hautman is another fantastic Hautman novel, I just love his books. This book is not a love story; it might appear to be, but it’s not. It’s an anti love story. It’s wonderful. This novel takes a year and the ups and downs of a relationship and lays it out in front of you. This is not a relationship set in the stars and the lovers are not battling to stick together though their families tear them apart. They love, they lose, they like, they’ve lost. The little details really drive this book home. I would love to see this one on the list!
