Both Ali and her best friend Kat, have quick wits and wonderful humor. This is totally a "girl book", a little similar to Twilight, but the female character has a lot more going for her (although she is just as smitten). And a little like Hunger Games in that Ali can fight and really thinks through situations. There is paranormal, romance, good vs. evil, a few Christian undertones, and a lot of humor, and a few surprises. There isn’t a huge Alice in Wonderland connection beyond the chapter titles that I can see. Some of the consumer reviews complain that these aren’t real zombies – WHAT??? Anyway, this would be a fun title for the list. Sharon Flesher, Nashua High South

I really didn’t want to read this. I hate zombies. But it’s a Flume nominee, so I felt that I had to give it a try. I liked it. It’s a different take on zombies, and while still cringeworthy, I didn’t mind, due to the interpersonal relationships between the characters. I cared so much about what was going to happen with them that it was difficult to not read straight through, and I kept sneaking the book out of my purse to read a page here or there when I had a second! The zombies might grab boys, but with a girl in a pretty dress on the cover, and then being from Alice’s perspective (full of mushy feelings), this might not be a good boy book.
-Kirsten Rundquist Corbett, Lane Memorial Library, Hampton

This story was not what I expected. The title suggested to me that I would be transported to another dimension, but the story was a nice mix of reality and supernatural. The zombies in this story are not like any other zombies I have seen. While this book is not what I bargained for I’m glad I picked it up and I think others should give it a shot. If someone says "I don’t like zombies" I would say, "you’ll still like this". KA/ACML

I thought this was a really fun and exciting read. I have to agree with Kelly that it’s not really a good boy book. I also don’t know that it should be on the list though.
Brittany Moore – Hall Memorial Library

Oh, no, really, not another zombie book………That’s what I thought when I picked this one up. But what a twist! Zombies unlike any other zombies I have seen! Loved this book and think it should be on the list!
-Pat Adams
Allenstown Public Library

FlumeAward – Alice in Zombieland 11300302 Alice in Zombieland by Gena Showalter I’m a fan of classic mashups, and this was fun, but if we are looking to grab teen …

[28

post-2021","post","type-post","status-publish","format-standard","hentry","category-flume-award-titles
["GET
