Breaking Dawn, by Stephanie Meyer, is the last (thus far) book in the Twilight Saga. After a heavy sci-fi beginning, the book continued in the normal vein of the previous three…suspenseful, gripping and wildly entertaining. The female protagonist and the love story appeals to females, even though she’s not a strong role model given the choices she makes. The vampire\/werewolf element appeals moreso to boys. Within the fantasy genre, I would classify it as one of the better publications of late, and would definitely include it on the top 13.<\/p>\n

I know this one will end up on the list, but of the four in the series, I’d say it was the weakest and probably, for me, the most disappointing. I don’t think the books are that wonderfully written to begin with, but their appeal cannot be disputed. With that said, it MUST be added to the list, as I know it will be! Must consider if stands alone, however; I don’t think it does.

My book group had a heated discussion about Breaking Dawn that lasted 2 hours. Most were fine with the way she took care of the Bella\/Edward\/Jacob love triangle but a few were very adamantly opposed and felt Meyer had "taken the easy way out" and thought it was "creepy and wrong." It was my least favorite of the series, although the discussion group was the most animated we have ever had.

I tried reading this out of order and I couldn’t make sense of a lot of the story. I think this series needs to be read in order to be worthwhile.

Updated message- Can’t keep our copies on the shelf; as with City of Bones\/Ashes, I think the series needs to stay on the list, but maybe we need to go in order- in other words, if the other books in the series haven’t been on the list, we should not include the most current. However, teens may be disappointed in the Flume Award list if we omit it. There seem to be so many series books lately- maybe we should start another list for Series only? Maybe the Falling Waters Award (The Falling Waters Trail takes you to Walker Cascade, Stairs Falls, Swiftwater Falls, and Cloudland Falls, so it’s a series \ud83d\ude09 of falls). -Beth Strauss, Pelham High School<\/p>\n
This book has been impossible to keep on our shelves, as expected. However, popularity alone shouldn’t earn an automatic spot in the Flume. This installment of the saga will not make any real sense to someone who hasn’t read the other 3. One patron skipped #3, and said she was totally lost. I definitely suffered from "Twilight" fever, but this book is clearly further in the series, and cannot stand alone, however much we might have teens & grown women (& men!- my 50-year old, grizzled Mainer landlord has read them all & raves!) screaming for it.

Can’t stand alone without having read the others. Not written as well as the others, but it completes the story. I’m sure it will make the list, and I enjoyed the series, but isn’t it time to not include the series each year?

This is not a good stand alone novel, it’s an end of the series novel. Not particularly well written. I would not enjoy seeing it on the list.
