She said that it could stand alone, but some relationships wouldn&#8217;t be very clear as characters from previous novels reappear. Probably not a good choice for the list.<br \/>Lisa Houde Rye Public Library<\/p>\n<p>Speaking personally, I absolutely love this series! It&#8217;s like Hornblower or Patrick O&#8217;Brian&#8217;s Aubrey\/Maturin series, but better, because it&#8217;s YA and features a girl\/young woman. It definitely is part of a series, though, unfortunately. I think the whole series deserves attention.
