A great stand alone title. The action really pulls a reader into the story from the first page.
Steifvater does an excellent job of both creating the setting and embellishing on the legend of the water horses. The voices of the main characters are authentic and equally matched. I really enjoyed this as well, boys and girls could both enjoy this story. You could look at it like it’s a horse story, but the horses are crazy supernatural beasts. The characters were great and the story flew along. It has been steadily checked out since we got it.

Fast paced, strong characters and setting. It’s been a hard sell for students (the cover makes them think it’s only about horses), but those who have read it love it.

I agree with Kelly, the cover makes it hard to promote. Boys insist that they never read books about horses, that’s a girl subject! It is a great book and I am hoping that a paperback version may change the cover.
