I loved this book. I hesitated picking it up, thinking that a book centering on the lives of circus performers would not interest me. The characters were brilliant, the imagery beautiful. The story line was captivating, heartwarming, and wonderfully told. It would appeal to both boys and girls alike. This book should definitely be on the top 13 list.

Joanne Palin
Sunapee Central Elementary School
Library Aide

This book was like a little treat! Richly narrated with well developed and quite interesting characters. A perfect choice for the adult book for teen selection. This book tore through my family like wildfire, and was termed a "counter book" because my mother stands at the kitchen counter to keep reading in the wee hours of the night when she can’t stay awake sitting! I agree with Joanne, it would appeal to both boys and girls, and should be among the top 13.
Lisa Houde
Rye Public Library

FlumeAward – Water for Elephants Water for Elephants, by Sara Gruen, was a very pleasant surprise.
