Boy saves girl from getting hit by moving car in school parking lot. Boy becomes girl’s science lab partner and is cold and distant. Boy can’t control himself to touch girl intimately. Think I messed up and mean to be reviewing Twilight? Nope. This is a near mirror image of it, though. Shockingly similar plotline until nearly half the book has passed. Ho Hum. I have to say the dialogue and writing was much better than that of Ms. Meyer, so I give it that much. There was more intrigue and suspense as to "who was doing the mean things" to our heroine. I think there was more true teen language – swearing and sexual innuendos abounded. Also unique to the book were handwritten comments from the stalker, which increased the suspense. We even had a pottery scene reminiscent of "Ghost" with Demi Moore and Patrick Swayze. The ending was rather predictable, and only slightly surprising. Should it be included in the top 13? I think not. There will surely be more appealing and well-written books that will be nominated. This one doesn’t deal with the supernatural, though. Our hero is Psychometric rather than being a vampire. Whatever.
Lisa Houde Rye Public Library

I’m laughing aloud reading Lisa’s review. I won’t bother to re-summarize, but I admit I liked this a lot more than Lisa did. I am undecided about top 13 worthy, but I found it to be a page turner and didn’t want to put it down even though some of it was predictable. I do think this certainly has a girl-appeal pull to it, and quite a few of the teens at my library have read it and liked it. I’m on the fence about Flume, but I thought it was a decent light read.
~Kathy Watson, Kimball Library

FlumeAward – Deadly Little Secret Discussion page for Deadly Little Secret.
