In this dual-narrative novel, Jill still blames herself for causing the car accident that killed her father a year ago. Her mother, Robin, wants to fill the void in the home by adopting the baby Mandy is carrying. Mandy comes to Denver from Omaha to live with Jill and Robin as her due date approaches, and all three have to come to terms with a new definition of family. As in her previous novels, Sara Zarr shows herself to be a master of authentic contemporary teen voices. ~ Gail Zachariah, Keene Public Library

A great choice filled with life lessons. It shows how the place you grow up can shape your life but that it doesn’t have to mold it…choices made can change your course. A little romance and family dynamics that teens will relate to well.
-Amy Inglis’
Barrington

VERY popular with students. It has family issue and a bit of love interest – and good lessons to learn.
Kelly B. Keene High School, 2/9/12

A wonderful story of the coming together of a new type of family. The situation with Mandy’s stepfather and the tension between Jill and Mandy add just enough drama to keep the story from becoming too mushy. Are we going to be seeing a book two as Mandy looks for the father of her baby?
Denise Schaaf, Goffstown Public Library

I have forgotten about reviewing this!
Older teens will appreciate this book. It’s just the kind of read that I like–angsty, drama, relational.
I recommend for the Flume List.
Kathy Watson, Kimball Library

FlumeAward – How to Save a Life How to Save a Life by Sara Zarr This is a wonderful choice for the Flume.
