I put up a picture of a basic circuit on our flatscreen TV and showed them how the electricity flows. Then I also showed them a simple example with an LED light and a flat battery and how you have to make sure you are connecting positive wire to positive side of the battery and negative to the negative. This was to show how if it is snapped in place backwards it might affect how it flows – and it actually happened a couple times.

They did the first diagram in the workbooks in pairs and we made sure everyone’s worked. It was great to see them when they all got the light to go on! They asked to do the next and I said of course, go for it! After a few projects that they whipped through on their own, I said I have a special project that I wanted them all to do at the same time – the winning team (I had them work in twos because I had twelve kids) would win a prize. I had previously scanned a couple projects and ended up using Project 22 and put it up on my TV – they could use the booklet or the TV to go – the winners got to pick from lg candy bars and everyone else in the room got a miniature candy bar. Then it was free play til the end of the hour – everyone loved it.

They were so proud when a project worked, and more so when it didn’t and they had to troubleshoot. -Wendy

Another fun, easy program!
