Beatrice and Virgil

FlumeAward – Beatrice and Virgil Discussion page for Beatrice and Virgil by Yann Martel

Very different from Life of Pi. I actually read it 3 times to decide for myself if the author was brilliant or just lazy. It’s an allegory so many kids might not get it. If you want Holocaust literature, there are far better books out there.

I enjoyed how this book took a completely different approach to dealing with the Holocaust. The developing relationship between the animal characters and the men composing the story created a unique environment that will make readers think. I’m not sure if it will have the widespread appeal of Life of Pi, but it is a fascinating book.
