Burning Blue

FlumeAward – Burning Blue Burning Blue by Paul Griffin

Nicole is the high school girl with everything – beauty, brains, money – until an assailant throws acid in her face. Now she discovers what it’s like to be stared at and whispered about as the left side of her face is permanently disfigured. Jay, an epileptic, understands how it feels to be treated like a freak. He befriends Nicole and together they try to find out who hated her enough to do such a thing. A lesson in "beauty is only skin deep." Surprising ending! I loved this book!

I agree with Denise, this is a great book to help teens look beneath the surface. Girls will love this book and it is well written with a fresh look at this timeless topic. Sally Nelson, Leach Library, Londonderry

If you like mysteries, you will like this. If you like stories told from multiple points of view, you will like this. It touches on crime fiction, body image, overcoming adversity, school life, hazards and the role of the media. Confession: I did not finish, but not because I didn’t want to. TIME. I would recommend for the list on as much as I did read.
