Call Me Amyby Marcia Strykowski

Amy(eight grade), finds school fairly easy, but people are more of a mystery and she is a bit of a loner. Until… a boy in her class, Craig, reveals that he has found an injured seal pup and is trying to nurse it back to health despite that being against the law. When Craig’s mother kicks the seal pup out of the garage, Craig and Amy take the pup to Miss Cogwell’s house. And it all begins. This is a cute story of growing up, first love, 1970s, death, prejudice. alcoholism – this book covers a lot, but the story holds together relatively well.
The characters are well drawn and likable. This might be a little young for our audience and I found it a slow start, but it is an enjoyable story. ~ Sharon Flesher, Nashua High South

I though this more on a reading level for The Isinglass list. I did not like the book, for the reason that it deals with "rescuing" a seal pup. Couldn’t finish it for that reason alone.
