This *might* be able to stand alone – although it is technically Book 4 of the Mortal Instruments, it begins a new story arc. I don’t think this can stand on its own- I had read the earlier 3, but was still a bit lost at some parts, due to the gap between reading those & this one. Also, of the series, I didn’t feel this was as strong as the earlier 3, so even if it COULD stand alone, which I don’t think it can, it’s not a strong read anyways.
