FlumeAward – Lock and Key Discussion page for Lock and Key
I read this book and found it to be a bit slower start than most of Sarah Dessen’s earlier books. However once a third of the way into the book it was very satisfying. I believe it will be very popular with the HS crowd. This is a great story which sings to the reader long after finishing the book. I met someone in a store who was wearing a beautiful old key around her neck and had to tell her about this book. That image will stay with readers.

I agreee. This was a decent read but not Dessen’s best. This year, our nomination list is so rich; I think we can do better. Gail Zachariah, Keene Public Library
Definitely appealing to teen girls, and I like that Dessen added a bit more depth to this one by making us work for the first 1/4 of the book before the action began. Its publication date is 2008 – is this too old?

I agree that it is not her best book. The male character, Nate, is compelling but the cotton candy pink cover pretty much guarantees no boy will ever pick up this book.

Typical Dessen kind of "Lifetime" thing. Not much of a story, more about character development. This will not appeal to boys at all and was a little slow at time. I was not thrilled with the character development of Cora who seemed pretty hollow throughout. I think that we can do better than this. Sharon Flesher-Duffy, Nashua High South
