There are two programmable Recon Rover robots in the MakerPlay Lending Library. The robots can be programmed using the small keypad and screen on the device itself. No other equipment is necessary.

Each line of code is one executable movement. Kids will need to learn to measure distance and configure turning angles to accurately program the robots to navigate a course.

David from the Barrington Public Library had this to say about using the robots at his library:

I’ve been using the kits to supplement an after-school enrichment program with the Barrington Middle School called “Curiosity Unleashed.” I had the students program the Rover to navigate a boot-camp obstacle course around the library. Once they mastered that, we went to Mars! I had created a Martian landscape using cardboard boxes where the students were split into two Space Programs with the mission to rescue a downed crew member and return safely to the shuttle. It was pay-loads of fun!
