I thought I would share what we have at Goodwin Library. We have a different kit each month, and a designated table we put the kits on. On this table we taped a sign (see photo) that says:

“Having fun? Thank the NH State Library! They let us borrow these Maker Play Kits for a whole month! Wait until you see what we’re getting next! Our STEAM program sparks imagination in our youngest patrons and helps them learn through doing. Ask at the Circulation Desk for more information about these kits and how libraries use the Maker Play Lending Program!”

We initially posted this sign to deter complaints about the library spending money on toys instead of books (we’ve had a rough two years with the town and our budget). We haven’t had any such complaints, but also the patrons read the sign and know that at the end of the month, the toy has to go to another library, but, the library will be getting something new. The kids will ask us what we’re getting next, or more importantly, when the kit that is leaving will be coming back.
